A Mom on a Mission!
Erin MacKenzie-Walberg, RMT, C.H.N.
I am a mom on a mission to inspire Self-Love, through holistic self-care, body positivity, mindfulness and gratitude.
My passion for this work started when I was a child. My parents both believed that you went to the doctor when you were really ill, but that you could prevent that need with remedies at home. My mom would treat me with Reiki, we would always see the chiropractor and acupuncturist, we used herbs, teas and broths when we were feeling ill. I am eternally grateful that my parents instilled within me the value of Self-Care and prevention.
Over the last 15 years I have honed my skills and brought new modalities into my tool-box in order to provide integrative and holistic treatments to my clients. In 2015, I was inspired to aligned myself with an amazing holistic whole food company, Juice Plus. This partnership was an amazing catalyst that has allowed me to help so many more people on their road to health and to be able to inspire families to take control of not only their health but their financial well-being as well. It has been a dream come true.
I am honored to be a part of your holistic healing journey, and look forward to inspiring and teaching you on the road to well-being.
A Girl With a Dream!
As long as I can remember I have wanted to own and operate a multi-modality treatment center to help teach people how to take charge of their own health and well-being! In fact, I registered my trade name before I even graduated from my massage program. :) I am so delighted to finally be fulfilling that dream!
In the summer of 2016, I decided that it was time to stop working towards someone elses dreams and focus on my own. I became empassioned with the idea of making my dream come true as soon as possible. Ever supportive and encouraging, my husband agreed and we began the journey that would test our marriage... home renovations! I am happy to report that we survived the renos with relatively few arguments ;) With the help of both our dads and some amazing friends my dream began to take shape. On November 15th 2016 my dream became reality, and I officially left the physiotherapy clinic I was working at and opened Healing Elements Holistics!
Turning my dream into reality has been totally amazing, and I haven't looked back!
My Self-Love Journey
Today, I am a happy, on the way healthy mom, wife, entrepreneur and self-love advocate who's mission is to inspire others to live a life of self-love and self-care through integrative holistic therapies like nutrition, massage, energy work, essential oils, meditation and mindfulness.
Although I've been in this career path for the last 15 years, the self-love and self-care aspect of my practice wasn't always there. I have lived most of my life on a well-being roller coaster. Swinging up into health and then down into not so good health and back again, without any real direction. (it's easy to do this when we are young, lol) That all changed the birth of my daughter in 2011. I didn't fall off the healthy living wagon all at once of course, it started really slowly and insidiously and took a few years before I hit bottom. With the exhaustion of motherhood there was always a reason or excuse I could find to procrastinate on my self-care, and I just didn't have the energy to get up and get moving. It felt selfish to take time out for myself, and I think I honestly thought I would just bounce back like I used to. But that didn't happen. Instead, I was filled with anxiety and panic that transitioned into depression.
Then in 2015 I crashed. Almost literally. It was a cold April morning and I was making the drive out to Ft.Sask where I worked as an RMT, and I was just SO TIRED! I honestly thought I was going to fall asleep at the wheel I was feeling so exhausted. As I stared down the highway to the upcoming bridge I started to panic. I thought to myself, just for a second "if I were to drive off the bridge instead of over it, I could finally get some rest." I fantasized about being rushed to the hospital, getting out of surgery, being told I needed to be on bed-rest and that someone would have to take care of me. I thought, being in the hospital I would finally lose weight, I could sleep, I wouldn't have to take care of anyone any more. It was the darkest moment of my life, and thankfully it was jarring enough that I realized I needed to make real and lasting change. I needed to start taking care of myself!
As a holistic health practitioner I had all the knowledge and the tools to do this, but it's hard to be objective when it's your own health you're talking about. I mean, at this point in my life "whole food" meant eating the whole box of doughnuts! Obviously, I needed some help. So I joined a friend of mine in a nutritional reset program, which was focused on getting as much high quality whole food nutrients into my body as possible every day! It also, meant giving up everything I had been "living" off of: processed foods, fast food, sugar, and coffee! Which for the first 3 days had me feeling like absolute garbage. After about the third day though, something amazing happen! It was like a veil lifted and I could see clearly for the first time in ages. I realized that I had actually slept through the night, which was amazing, and I actually had energy! It dawned on me that so much of what had been weighing me down was malnutrition. Everything that I learned about whole foods and mental health started coming back to me and I had that Ah-Ha moment connecting everything together with self-care. Self-care isn't just pouring a glass of wine and slipping into a bubble bath (though that's amazing and you should totally do that). Self-Care is making a plan to ensure that you are nourishing your body, mind and spirit every day, and that true self-care is the farthest thing from being selfish, in fact the only way to ensure that you can be of service to others is to take care of yourself first. And so, promoting Self-Care became the focus of my practice, and with it came Self-Love because you have to believe and know that you are worth it to make change. You truly can not pour from an empty vessel and the best way to show people love, is to love yourself first.
Thus was born the Self-Love Lifestyle. Now the focus of my practice is Self-Care and Self-Love, inspiring my clients to incorporate body work, nutrition, mindfulness and gratitude into their daily lifestyle routines. I am now a passionate Self-Love and body positivity advocate, mom, wife, RMT, nutrition practitioner & educator, meditation teacher and entrepreneur and am absolutely honored to share this healing journey with you.
